The International Bar Association (IBA) Group Members’ Leadership Summit 2023 was held on June 7th and 8th local time in New York, US, with the theme ‘Gaining perspective – exploring opportunities and challenges for global law firms.’ Ms. Almudena Arpon de Mendivil, IBA President, attended the summit and delivered the opening gambit. Ms. Linda Yang, International Founding Partner, Global Partner, and Executive Chairman of Yingke Global Board of Directors of Yingke International, was invited to attend the summit and participate in roundtable discussions. Mr. Li Yongyuan and Mr. Jesse Weiner, Co-managing Partners of YK Law LLP, were also invited to attend, together with over a hundred top law firm leaders from over 50 countries.
On June 7th, the President of IBA Ms. Almudena Arpón de Mendívil jnaugurated the summit with a welcoming speech. A keynote speech was then delivered by Ms. Maria Noel Vaeza, Regional Director of UN Women, New York, followed by a workshop session moderated by Ms. Lindsey, the two-time Emmy Award-Winning Journalist,. A roundtable forum on the themes of “Navigating Uncertainty” and “Cultivating the Next Generation of Law Firm Leaders” was held the next day on June 8th.
Ms. Yang was the only Chinese lawyer speaker who participated in the “Navigating Uncertainty” roundtable forum moderated by Mr. Albert Bollard from McKinsey & Company, US. She was joined by other internationally renowned professionals and lawyers representing the global law firms, including Ms. Farmida Bi from Norton Rose Fulbright, UK, Mr. Fernando Carreño from Von Wobeser y Sierra, S.C., Mexico, Ms. Ademar Comiskey from Linklaters, UK, Mr. Brad Karp from Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP, US, and Mr. Peter Martelli from Kirkland & Ellis LLP, US. Ms. Yang shared her opinions and exchanged views with other speakers on applying legal technology, training for young lawyers, challenges brought by geopolitical conflicts, ESG, and other contemporary legal topics.
