On the afternoon of March 17, 2022, the Episode I “Joinder and Consolidation in International Arbitration” of “CIETAC Live Studio – International and Arbitration Insight Series” was successfully held online.
With the increasingly frequent international economic and trade exchanges, disputes have shown a more complex trend, often involving multiple parties, a variety of legal relations, different legal applications and so on. Differences in cultural and legal backgrounds increase the need for international arbitration participants to have an in-depth understanding of arbitration procedures. Therefore, the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (hereinafter referred to as “CIETAC”), Wolters Kluwer and IDRA jointly hosted a series of lectures on “International and Arbitration Insight”. The Episode I of the series of International and Arbitration Insight in 2022 was undertaken by Stephenson Harwood LLP and Yingke Law Firm.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Ms. Fei Lu, deputy director of Business Development Division of CIETAC, Ms. Gwen de Vries of Wolters Kluwer delivered a welcome speech, and Ms.Changqing Xie, vice president of CIETAC Arbitration Court delivered an opening speech.
The event was divided into two panel discussions. The first panel discussion carries out insight sharing centered on the theme of “Joinder and non-signatory Parties”. Moderated by Andrew Rigden green, a partner of Stephenson Harwood, the following guests participated in the discussion: Prof. Bernard Hanotiau of Hanotiau & Van den Berg, member of the ICCA Advisory Board; Ms. Linda Yang, Founding Partner, Global Partner, and Executive Chairwoman of Yingke Law Firm, ; Mr. Shihan Huang, Lawyer of Yingeke Law Firm; And Ms. Kiran Gore of Wolters Kluwer.
Another roundtable discussion focused on issues related to “Consolidation and large-scale arbitration.” Moderated by Dr. Fan Yang, Partner,Director of Stephenson Harwood LLP, IDRA, the following guests participated in the discussion: S.I. Strong, Associate Professor of University of Sydney Law School; Mr. Simon Greenberg, Partner of Clifford Chance and Paris Court Member of the ICC International Court of Arbitration; Mr. Brad Wang, Deputy Secretary General of the CIETAC-Hong Kong.
At this point, the discussion on “Joinder and Consolidation” was successfully concluded. CIETAC Live Studio has become an influential platform for the dissemination of arbitration law knowledge domestically and abroad. The seminar was an in-depth discussion of the legal issues related to joinder and consolidation in international arbitration.
