Jesse J. Weiner is a member of the firm’s corporate and intellectual property practice, focusing primarily on entertainment and media finance.

Practice & Background

Mr. Weiner represents financial institutions, mezzanine investors, production companies and equity providers in motion picture, television, digital financing and co-financing, and other corporate transactions. He also advises borrowers, distributors, content creators, high-net-worth individuals, funds and others involved in various aspects of the production, financing and distribution of film, television and digital content.

Mr. Weiner has served as an adjunct professor at the Renmin University School of Law teaching international business transactions with an emphasis on IP and entertainment matters, as well as guest lecturing at the Beijing Film Academy. He regularly writes about the Chinese entertainment industry and other current Chinese legal issues.

Mr. Weiner has also worked for the American Bar Association’s Beijing office and has volunteered his time with China Law and Development Associates, a Beijing-based NGO devoted to promoting anti-discrimination and the rule of law in the Chinese countryside.

Mr. Weiner received his J.D. in 2009 from the George Washington University Law School. He is a member of the New York Bar. Jesse is proficient in Mandarin Chinese.

Representative Matters

Mr. Weiner’s recent engagements include the representation of:

  • Weying Galaxy (in association with H Collective) in its acquisition of the xXx franchise from Revolution Studio
  • Actor-Singer Mike Angelo (repped by CAA) on various film/TV productions, branding and endorsement deals and an exclusive music deal with QQ/Tencent.
  • Director Ning Hao’s production company Dirty Monkey for the feature film “Crazy Alien.”
  • A Chinese financier/distributor in a $5 million credit facility with East West Bank related to the financing of its current and future acquisitions.
  • Novartizan Inc. in connection with various matters, including sponsorship agreements, events, and licensing agreements.
  • A major Chinese investor in its equity investments and distribution agreements with Paramount
  • Sun Seven Stars Media Group in the financing and set-up of various media and IT joint ventures throughout the world.
  • Hunan TV (TIK) on a multi-year slate financing arrangement with Lionsgate
  • Macao China International Digital Cinema Festival in connection with the set-up of the festival and long-term cooperation with a Chinese media company
  • VFX company BangBang! on all aspects of its ongoing China business and projects
  • Production services company Gungho
  • Microsoft Corporation in its multi-million-dollar video online copyright dispute with various content rights holders in China.
  • Former Miss Universe Alicia Machado with talent, book, event, defamation and merchandising deals and matters.
