Specialization
Ilia specializes in the dispute resolution, arbitration and international trade law. After his graduation from the law faculty of the Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonossov (1996) Mr. Rachkov has gathered substantial experience in advising Russian and foreign companies (including banks and state bodies) on dispute resolution matters, both before state courts in and outside Russia, and before international and domestic arbitral tribunals, and on international trade law matters.
Education
Mr. Rachkov graduated from the International Business School at MGIMO (nomination: Business administration, 1991). He holds his degree in law from the law faculty of the Moscow State Lomonossov University (MSU, Russia, 1991 – 1996), graduated from the French University College (Collège Français Universitaire) as MSU (1994 – 1996), was studying at universities of Regensburg (Germany) and Nijmegen (The Netherlands). In 1995 and 1997 he attended summer courses in international private law and international public law at The Hague Academy of International Law. In 1997 Ilia accomplished his LL.M. studies at the law faculty of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe University in Frankfurt/Main, and in 1999 his post-doctoral studies at the Institute of State and Law of the Russian Academy of Sciences. In 2000, Mr. Rachkov defended his doctoral thesis. In 1998 – 2002 he was studying at the International Faculty of Comparative Law (Graz/Austria and Strasbourg/France). Besides, in 2002 Ilia attended the summer seminar for international law at the UN International Law Commission (Geneva, Switzerland). In 2008, he accomplished a course on cross-border transactions run by the Lex Mundi Institute (Monterey, California, US).
Professional activities
Ilia Rachkov is recorded in the list of recommended arbitrators of the Arbitration Center at the Institute of Modern Arbitration (founded by the Saint-Petersburg Legal Forum). He is a member of the Legal Committee of the German-Russian Foreign Trade Chamber. Mr. Rachkov teaches international economic law at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations – MGIMO (Moscow).
